The Academic Master’s Program at the Nursing Graduate Program in Fundamental Nursing (PPGEF) was created in 1979 and the Doctoral Program was created in 1991. In the triennium 2004-2006, the Graduate Program received a grade of 6 in the evaluation conducted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and was the first graduate program in the field of nursing to receive such a grade, which was maintained in the triennium 2007-2009.
The goal of the Graduate Program is to qualify nurses and health professionals and professionals in related fields for scientific research, teaching, and to occupy leadership positions in health institutions. The thematic axis is health care delivered to adults and elderly individuals in the dimensions of care, education, research and management at the levels of health care interventions: prevention, promotion and rehabilitation.
The program currently has nine lines of research that include different fields of knowledge: Fundamental Nursing, Clinical Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, Communication in Nursing, Health Education, Occupational Health, Elderly Health, and Management of Health and Nursing Services.
The faculty is composed of 36 advisors: 27 of which are the primary professors and another 17 collaborate to the program. The professors are leaders or researchers in 17 research groups registered in the Directory of Research Groups in Brazil, National Counsel of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
The graduate program has a set of 36 courses directed to the pedagogical and methodological education of students, as well as courses addressing topics relevant to health and nursing.
This is a consolidated program and serves as a reference point for graduate programs both in Brazil and internationally, being responsible for the education of Brazilian and international students.
